Like a lot of people I know, meal planning in general can be such a chore. I’ve tried meal plans before and I never seem to stick with them. I’ve also tried meal prepping but again nothing has really stuck. Well there’s a few things that have finally made all of this so much easier for me!
First is the meal plans and prep by Cassy Joy Garcia over at Fed + Fit. I was a bit skeptical but I have now been doing it for 3 weeks and just did the groceries for week 4! This is the longest I’ve stuck with something. The grocery lists are not anything crazy and do not take much time at all to get everything. And I’ve been loving the price of all my groceries for the week. It’s only been about $50 each time! Now some things I adjust like if there are potato wedges I’ve just used frozen french fries we already have. Or for mashed potatoes I’ve just used instant mashed potatoes. So those have been shortcuts to a few things.
The prep and cleanup time has then only taken me an hour to an hour and a half each time. I have been so surprised! I do have a husband who will help with dishes along the way though. 🙂 The other great part is once the prep is done these meals really are ready in 30 minutes or less!
The other things that have really helped keep this process easy and affordable has been doing free grocery pick up at Pick ‘N Save and also grocery pick up from Aldi through Instacart. Aldi has really been where I save on groceries and then I grab what I don’t find there at Pick ‘N Save.
Some of the meals Brian and I have both been a bit skeptical of and they’ve turned out to be the most delicious! Check out the pictures below to see what I’ve been able to make so far.
The next meal this week is Mini Sloppy Joe Stuffed Potatoes. And then as I mentioned above I just got the groceries for the 4th week of meals. I am strongly considering buying her cookbook if I can keep this up with the rest of the meal plans I have gotten through the emails! Seriously, just try it and let us know what you think!
