What I’m Reading

By: Amanda Magnus

There is something about diving into a good book that just makes a person happy. And that is definitely true for me. I know some people really don’t enjoy reading but it’s something I’ve loved to do since I could read. I don’t have a specific genre I stick to because I really love all sorts of books. I will say my favorites are probably historical fiction or suspense. Since having kids I just have not had time or made the time to read for fun as much as I’d like to.

So when I saw The Uncorked Librarian posted about doing a 2020 reading challenge I was all in! And my friend Emily had bought me two great books for my birthday last year that I just hadn’t gotten around to reading so this was a perfect reason to dive in! You can check out the reading challenge here.

The first book I read was Escape from Camp 14. This is a true story about a young mans escape from labor camps in North Korea. It was an incredible book. But so sad to understand the reality of how other parts of the world are. It’s almost hard to imagine a place could be so terrible.

The next book I’m reading is Uninvited. I can’t tell you much yet since I just started it. But I wanted to read this book because I have heard so many good things about it!

The other thing I have made a goal for is to read the bible. I’m following a 3 year schedule which you can see here. This is something I’ve wanted to do for such a long time that I figured this was a great time to start since I am going to make more of an effort to read this year! I’m using the People’s Bible to work my way through because not only does it have the bible verses but it then gives an explanation of them for better understanding.

And finally here are a few other books I picked up to hopefully read on the cruise that we go on next month. I am getting pretty excited for the cruise. Be sure to check back at the end of February to see how it goes!

What are some of your favorite books to read? Do you have a favorite author?

  1. Rhonda had given me “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” for my birthday and it was a sad but incredible read as well. I also like to read a variety of genres and am looking forward to our timeshare week later this month since I do a lot of my reading when I travel.

  2. I just finished “My Grandmother Told Me to Tell You She’s Sorry” and loved it! It is told from the perspective of a hilarious eight year old girl. It is sometimes sad but mostly sweet and funny. It was a perfect vacation book. Read it on your cruise!
