“What’s for dinner?” Ugh, that one question stresses me out most days/weeks. I try to meal plan as much as I can but between kids and finding time to grocery shop motivation for meal planning just doesn’t always happen. Okay, if you ask my husband it rarely happens lately! But I have found a few things that help pull meals together and they are quick and easy to make!
The first thing I learned to add to meals was canned green beans. Now this would work with most any canned vegetable. We have quite a stock of canned green beans though and I just wasn’t using them because I couldn’t figure out how to season them just right. Well when we went to South Dakota in July and stayed with my friends Emily and Reece, Emily introduced me to Lawry’s Seasoned Salt. This has been a game changer for meals. All you do is strain your green beans put them in a pot to warm on the stove. Add in about 2 TBSP of butter and sprinkle on some Lawry’s Seasoned Salt to taste. That’s it! Super easy, quick and so delicious. Lawry’s Seasoned Salt is great for anything you want to add salt too!
The next thing I have incorporated into meals to pull things together are instant potatoes. I know, I know you’re thinking, “Really? Instant potatoes?!” Yes, my friends, seriously! We had dinner with our friends Brooke and Sam not long ago and they made mashed potatoes. They were so good we had to know how they made them. They told us they were just instant potatoes. But not just any instant potatoes. They are the Idahoan brand instant potatoes. I don’t believe all instant potatoes are created equal so make sure you try this specific brand.
This third thing isn’t a food item but it is a kitchen gadget to make preparing meat for your meal easier. The Sous Vide is our newest kitchen gadget and it has been amazing! You just set it up, throw in your meat and you have perfectly cooked beef tenderloin, ribs, pork chops, you name it! No having to keep an eye on it just set it and go. Stay tuned for more on the Sous Vide in a future post.
Finally, this is my new favorite thing in my kitchen. It isn’t a food item to help with meals but if you are like me and enjoy a coffee in the morning Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce creamer is a must! I usually just drink my coffee black but this creamer makes me want to add it to my coffee each morning. And coffee has been a must lately since I’ve been getting up pretty early to teach classes for VIPKid.
Have you found any must have kitchen staples lately? What is one thing you always make sure to have in your kitchen?
