How I Keep My Kids Busy for the Summer

By: Amanda Magnus

Summer time is probably one of the busiest seasons for us and many people. If you live in the Midwest you want to take full advantage of the warm sunny weather for the short time we have it. Summer also means kids are out of school so that means extra time with them which is great but can also mean having to find things to keep them busy. So I’m going to give you some of the things we like to do to get out and keep the kids active.

1. Parks

Both kids love getting to go to the park and run around. We have some great larger playgrounds in our area that have equipment for little kids like Porter who is only 1 and then also bigger kids like Ella who is 3.5 and can handle doing more. It’s a great way to get out of the house and let the kids burn off some energy.

2. The Zoo

In past years we have made a zoo trip here and there but this year we finally got a zoo pass. So that means the zoo is going to be one of our regular trips throughout the summer. Our zoo has a kids area to let the kids play and also has a  petting zoo area too. The zoo is another great way to get out of the house and let the kids be entertained by checking out all of the animals.

3. Splash Pads

Splash pads are great for all ages. They are perfect for those really hot days. The kids love to run through the water and play with the different fountains shooting up from the ground. I also like this option because I feel it’s easier with multiple kids than a swimming pool would be.

4. Play Dates

Schedule play dates! This is honestly a life saver all year round. Make a play date with another friend and their kids either at their house or somewhere else you like to take the kids. It gives you some adult time while also giving the kids a change of scenery and other kids their age to play with.

Hopefully these ideas will help you and your kids stay busy this summer and have lots of fun! What are your go to activities during the summer with your kids?
