Refinishing furniture has always looked like a lot of fun, and a great way to save old pieces and make them feel new again! While Amanda is the true pro at refinishing furniture, I decided to take a stab at it myself this summer! I’ve lived in an apartment with a roommate for the past few years, and was moving to my own apartment this summer. I needed a lot of new furniture of my own, but didn’t want to break the bank buying it. I was able to find a reasonable couch/futon on Wayfair, and an area rug on Craigslist, but I still needed to find a TV stand.
In the midst of searching thrift stores and Craigslist for used TV stands, a neighbor put an old desk out on the curb. It wasn’t pretty, but there was potential. It just needed a little love.
We started out by taking out the drawers and sanding everything down. I painted it white, but left the legs as-is. My initial plan was to get new hardware for the handles, but decided that since I’d be using it as a TV stand rather than a desk, I’d put in some canvas boxes instead of the drawers.
Here is the finished product:
I didn’t do anything too fancy, but I’m a fan of it! Now I want to find some more old furniture and get creative with colors. I’m thinking mint next time. 🙂 Stay tuned!
